to include all influenza
A viruses
so they can have another, I guess, government shutdown or mail-in ballots or you're going to die if you try to vote, so you've got to get a mail-out ballot or whatever they're doing. Explain that to us.

HHS Secretary Becerra
used a prior
obsolete strain of influenza,
the H7N9
strain, and said, well, that's in a class of influenza
A, so I'm going to make influenza A the entire class
of viruses there
under emergency
use authorization.
So this is important because
about
75%
of all seasonal human influenza is influenza A.
The current avian influenza or bird flu is influenza A. So this gives the government broad sweeping powers to say the next influenza season is an emergency
and they can enact all kinds of what's called biosecurity measures.
And so what will be the objective of that? Like what is the government's objective here, in your view, Dr. McCullough?
I think it's a rapid track for Moderna's
influenza
and their avian influenza
vaccines. It also gives them broad powers again for
lockdowns,
mask mandates, to do really anything the government wants to do related to influenza A.
